Since 2004, I have been the staff photographer for NorthShore University HealthSystem. During that time, one of my main duties has been to photograph patients, doctors, children and dogs for Connections Magazine. Hundreds of people have passed in front of my lens and they have welcomed me into their lives sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for a few minutes. I remember each person and situation and count myself lucky to have been welcomed in if even for just a moment. Those conversations are always more real and revealing than the conversations most people have day to day. To have heard the stories that many of us don’t know exist within those around us has been one of the most rewarding things in my life.
Here are a few of the photos that I have captured for Connections over these past few decades. Some of these people are no longer with us. But their light shines on in these images.
What’s in store for the future? Connections Magazine has been sunsetted after more than 100 years in print (formerly as Pilot Magazine). Under new leadership and with the launching of the new Endeavor Health brand, the decision was made to cut costs.
