I recently traveled to South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia and Zimbabwe to capture photos of the people, the animal life and the essence of this great continent. What I learned is that it is a land of contrasts: High end modified Porsches roll past mountains of garbage being picked over by the poor. The wealthiest live imprisoned by gilded cages in malls, outside of which people struggle to sell, scam and rob. The people there are always selling to the tourists, and have a beauty and friendliness and strength that is natural and effortless. I found myself aching to reach out to learn and grow, and being always pulled back by my minders. The natural beauty struggles against the plague that is humanity. Wide open spaces contain the most natural wild places, fenced in and criss-crossed by roads. I found that I loved the natural places and sought to escape any places where humans had tread. But coming home, I love my photos of the people I interacted with. And now, I long to go back. Here are just a few highlights.
