Photography with a purpose is the best kind of photography I like to create. The event was the coming together of young black and latino men who are starting out as teachers, with all the hopes and fears and desires that are included with that. Combine that with a challenging environment both inside and outside the classroom and this seminar is golden. Great instructors, great exercises and a solid environment of acceptance and openness to vulnerability taught the attendees about what it’s like to grow up with trauma, what it means to want to be a good man and how being a minority is an asset. For this event, I was part of a larger crew capturing video of the presentations as well as interviews. I focused in on creating great imagery that showed off the presenters, the interaction of the attendees, and showed the new teachers as future model instructors.
